Nakata Seiho (Nakata Rinnosuke) was born on March 1, 1896 in Hokkaido. He studied Chikuho-ryū shakuhachi under Sakai Chikuho I and began teaching in 1919. During his more than 50 years in shakuhachi, he belonged to the Seibi-kai and was a director of the Osaka Sankyoku-kai. In 1970 he was given the title of Karyō-ken Dai-shihan as well as being honored with the 1970 Expo Commemoration Award.
