Akiyama Shiuzan (Akiyama Tadashi) was born October 13, 1924. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Kinoshita Seizan (a student of Muraoka Kōzan), achieving the rank of Dai-Shihan and the title Chikurin-ken. He served two terms on the Tozan-ryū Gaku-kai council, two terms on the Jun-Shihan (associate instructor) examination committee, as well as a term as chief executive officer of the Hyōgo Prefecture branch of the Tozan-ryū.
