Yonezawa Hiroshi was born in Tokyo in 1953. In 1973 he began shakuhachi studies with Miyata Kohachirō. He joined the Nippon Music Group in 1978 and received the Remy Martin Award from Ongaku no Tomo. He began travels as goodwill ambassador. In 1981 he successfully passed the NHK audition. Through his activities, he has performed with the Gewandhaus, New York Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, Yomiuri Symphony, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Kyoto Symphony, and other orchestras in Japan and abroad. In addition to his concert activities, he also teaches theater, broadcast music, citizen's cultural lectures, workshops, and specialized courses. He is a member of the Japan Shakuhachi Professional Players Network.
