Gotō Gadō (Gotō Iwaki) was born March 7, 1924 in Yamaguchi Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Nawa Keidō. He was a member of the Tobata Sankyoku Kyōkai and the Zangetsu-kai.
