Born December 28, 1916 in Kumamoto, Kinoshita Ryūhō (Kinoshita Tomoyoshi) studied Kinko-ryū and Meian-ryū shakuhachi under Shimizu Shōdō, Nakamura Kikufū, and Shimokawa Jokai. He belonged to the Kyoto Meian-kai and headed the Kumamoto branch of the association. He was active in the Kumamoto shakuhachi world for more than 40 years.
