Born in Wakayama Prefecture November 28, 1893, Ikeda Seizan first studied under Nakao Tozan's student Nishimura Tomo, then later under Tozan himself. He participated in the New Japan Music Movement that emerged at the end of the Taisho era (1912-1926), and worked to promote the movement in the Kansai region as well as the spread of the Tozan style. He passed away on December 26, 1959.
