Born January 15, 1914, Ōta Chikudō (Ōta Tadashi) studied Ueda-ryū shakuhachi under Tao Chikudō (Ueda Hōdō lineage). He started teaching in 1933. He belonged to the Ueda-ryū Shakuhachi-dō, and was the head of the Chikubu-kai. He was active in the shakuhachi world for more than 40 years.
